Mac System Diagnostics

Here are the steps to perform on a regular basis to help keep your Mac up and running:
  1. Restart using the OS on your Norton CD-ROM (Hold the "C" key on startup)
  2. Run Norton Disk Doctor on all hard drives
  3. Run Norton Speed Disk to Defragment and Optimize all drives
  4. Restart your Mac in the normal way
  5. Run TechTool to Analyze the System
  6. Use TechTool to Rebuild the Desktops on all drives
  7. Run Virex to remove viruses and repair or delete infected files
  8. Run Adobe Type Manager to Verify and replace all corrupted Fonts

Norton Utilities for Mac: A suite of applications for diagnosing, repairing and optimizing Hard Drives, SyQuests, Zips and other removable and non-removable drives. Includes Norton Disk Doctor, Speed Disk, UnErase, FileSaver, and other useful utilities. This Application is a must to minimize down time and data losses due to disk corruption or crashes.

MicroMat TechTool: A Freeware application which Analyzes the Mac Operating System and its integral parts for corruption, and Rebuilds the invisible DeskTop files for all removable and non-removable drives. TechTool Pro is the full version of this application.

Network Associates Virex: A disinfectant application which scans for Mac virus files, and repairs or eliminates any which are found. A Protection Extension automatically scans floppy disks and removable cartridges as they are inserted to further protect against virus files. You must be sure to update the "virus definitions" regularly for protection against current viruses.

Adobe Type Manager: Adobe's Font Management and Verification application can be used to organize your fonts, and check and remove corrupted fonts which often are the triggers to system crashes and application hangs.
