Embossed Type:
- Create Type in your Photoshop document. Make its color Black.
- In the Layer Menu choose Layer >> Type >> Render.
- Checkmark the Preserve Transparency box and apply Filter >> Stylize >> Emboss. Settings of Angle 135, Height 3, and Amount 100% are generally satisfactory, but at certain resolutions a larger Height amount might be more effective. Explore.
- Use the Gaussian Blur filter at about 1 or 2 to soften the embossed effect slightly.
- Place an Image onto a Layer Beneath the Type.
- Change the Blending Mode to Hard Light on the Type Layer to finish the effect.
- Or, Fill with a Color or Apply a Gradient to the Type using the Color Mode Blending Mode.
