Embossed Type:

  1. Create Type in your Photoshop document. Make its color Black.
  2. In the Layer Menu choose Layer >> Type >> Render.

  4. Use the Gaussian Blur filter at about 1 or 2 to soften the embossed effect slightly.
  5. Place an Image onto a Layer Beneath the Type.
  6. Change the Blending Mode to Hard Light on the Type Layer to finish the effect.
  7. Or, Fill with a Color or Apply a Gradient to the Type using the Color Mode Blending Mode.
